How to Get Your First 10 Five-Star Reviews on Airbnb

Airbnb's algorithm is fundamentally a social proof machine. New listings get a temporary "new listing boost" in search results — typically 4–6 weeks of elevated visibility to generate initial bookings. If you use that window to collect high-quality reviews, you exit the new listing period with momentum. If you don't, you slide to the back of search results and have to fight for every booking.

The 5-Part New Listing Strategy

1. Price 15–20% below comparable listings for the first 5–10 bookings. This is a calculated investment in review velocity, not a permanent strategy. You'll recover the pricing gap many times over once you have 10 five-star reviews.

2. Accept your first few bookings personally and be extraordinarily responsive. No automation during the review-building phase. Every interaction is a review opportunity.

3. Send the Night 1 check-in message personally (see our guest communication guide). This single touchpoint is the highest-leverage intervention in the first-stay review outcome.

4. Leave the guest review immediately after checkout. Hosts who review first see higher rates of guest review reciprocation. Your 5-star review of the guest signals you had a positive experience and encourages them to reflect that back.

5. If a guest expresses any dissatisfaction during the stay, resolve it immediately and follow up. A guest who had a small issue handled well often leaves a better review than a guest who had no issues at all.

What Never to Do

Never ask for reviews in exchange for gifts, discounts, or perks — this violates Airbnb's terms of service and can result in suspension. Never incentivize specific positive feedback. The only acceptable ask is: "Your feedback helps us improve — we'd appreciate your honest review if you have a moment." That phrase, sent within 2 hours of checkout, is platform-compliant and has a 45–60% review response rate in the CFD community.
